Favourite time of year:

Autumn, when I'm allowed to put long skirts and lipstick on without the odd looks.

Favourite travel destination:

Mumbai, I interned there last year and can't wait to go back.

Secret hideout in York:

My back garden, where I can eat out in the sun and not see a soul.

Favourite things about living here:

Knowing that you will always bump into an old friend.

Best bars:

Madness, and 1331 if you like a bit of karaoke.

Best insiders tip:

York has so many great places to go foraging and the best food markets. I've recently started buying sourdough breads from Bluebird Bakery who have a market stall on Newgate every Thursday.

The British olympic rower Helen Glover, she's my idol of fitness. And Joy of Joy the Baker, a food blogger who understands how to bake, and how to write about it. Her recipes have never failed me.

Best view of the city:

My old house on Gillygate where I spent most of my time people-watching as I ate breakfast. You learn a lot about people in those few fleeting moment as they pass you by. It's like you're very own exhibition of what York is like.

Favourite shop:

Tarts and Titbits and farmers' markets. Good locally sourced food is a priority over most things.

Best place to eat:

York has too many amazing places but Goji's vegan hot dogs are unbeatable, along with their cakes.

This time next year I will be:

Either back in education or abroad, 2013 is all about new adventures and continuous self learning.

Top 5 bands:

Not all of them are bands but I can't seem to get enough of Ani Difranco, Anais Mitchell, Kate Bush, Admiral Fallow and The Tallest Man on Earth.

Favourite era:

The early 1920's.Just so that I could live in Downton Abbey, and be told off by Dame Maggie Smith for being a stubborn little lady.

If I was an animal I would be a:

A squirrel, the red kind that is.

I’m an amateur-mixture dropping baker with a passion for food, community and lifestyle journalism. If I’m not baking, or writing posts for my brain-child Alibakesblog, I can usually be found reading up about anything and everything foodie-related, or falling out of an awkwardly ill-attempted yoga pose. I travel, far too frequently, and often find myself dotting on trains between my three ‘homes’ – York, London and Nottingham. My ‘ideal’ would be to work on my own diy flat, hold elaborate house parties and make a career out of my passion; food, life, and travel. For now, I’m happy working towards building that dream, one recipe at a time.
