York is undoubtedly, a city of creatives, and a carousel for the arts. With a number of theatres across the city there is very few days in the year that you can’t find song and dance, or a crafted piece of theatre. And for Joseph Rowntree Theatre their aim has always stayed true from back when Seebohm Rowntree opened the community building back in 1935, ‘providing a hall which may be a fitting centre for those recreational and educational activities which make for a full and happy life.’ Now, to continue to provide a space for the community to both participate and engage with the arts, Joseph Rowntree Theatre are looking for an individual to join their board of directors and act as a trustee of the charity, seeking a volunteer Stage Crew Director.
For the past twelve years Joseph Rowntree Theatre has been run by the charitable trust providing an affordable space to over 30 performing organisations, including the likes of York Opera, Flying Ducks Youth Theatre and New Earswick Musical Society. This has been possible thanks to the efforts of 150 regular volunteers. It takes 85 volunteers and over 600 hours of volunteering alone to put on a show at Joseph Rowntree Theatre, which means that there’s a strong need for an organised mind to help co-ordinate.
The Stage Crew Director will help to co-ordinate Stage Crew members and their rotas before each production as well as attending monthly board meetings and taking on the role of Duty Manager at show performance, on rotation with others board members. Being part of Joseph Rowntree Theatre means that you’ll be at the heart of the York’s vibrant theatre scene, and can provide a part in the management and development of the theatre for the benefit of the local community.
For those interested in the role, you can find out more by clicking on the ‘Volunteer Today’ button at the right-hand side of this article, and filling in your details. The closing date for the voluntary post is 15 November, so break a leg and put yourself on centre stage.
