The First 1,000 Days of being a parent, from pregnancy through the first two years, are now accepted to be the most significant in a child’s development and the care a child receives in this time has more influence on their future than any other time in their life. But ask most parents, and chances are they’ll say that the First 1,000 Days also present some of the most challenging moments and, with each new baby comes a whole new set of priorities, dilemmas and challenges.
The local York NCT branch are looking for volunteers to be part of the network that helps everyone through those First 1,000 days of pregnancy and early parenthood.
The branch is run totally by volunteer parents and parents-to-be. They organise a wide range of social activities and events to enable local parents to meet, access support and information. They also organise the popular Nearly New Sales as well as hosting small, local coffee groups giving the chance for new parents to meet regularly, socialise and make new friends.
If you are a parent (new or well-seasoned!) or a parent to be and would like to help more parents have a better experience of pregnancy, birth and early parenthood then consider volunteering. All manner of roles are always available, whether it’s working on our quarterly newsletter, helping at our NNS, hosting a social, promoting the branch or assist with fundraising. As a national charity, there’s lots of support and training available to volunteers via comprehensive guides on its dedicated volunteer website, role-specific e-groups as well as the Regional and National Branch Support workers.
