Deliciouslyorkshire and Yorkshire chef Brian Turner CBE are inviting Yorkshire business and customers to shake up their wake up on Friday 25th January and join in a Big Yorkshire Breakfast Day at Askham Bryan College near York.
The event is part Farmhouse Breakfast Week (20-26 January 2013) and is one of hundreds across the country highlighting the importance of eating a healthy breakfast and encouraging the public to start the day with a local breakfast.
New research conducted for the campaign shows that nearly half of us (47%) skip breakfast at some point during the week and 15 per cent do not eat it at all. Research also shows that 32 per cent of British children are regularly missing breakfast. This is despite the fact that scientific research has shown that eating breakfast can make you healthier and happier.
The Big Yorkshire Breakfast Day will showcase the great local produce available in Yorkshire. Yorkshire has all the ingredients for a perfect breakfast from continental inspired local bakery, to traditional farmhouse meats and cereals along with smoked fish caught on the Yorkshire Coast.
The day will start with a Yorkshire breakfast using a range locally produced ingredients, attendees will then be able to watch Brian Turner’s Cook Off with local students as the former Ready Steady Cook chef demonstrates how easy it is to cook a tasty breakfast with local Yorkshire ingredients.
Cath Clelland, chair of deliciouslyorkshire the not for profit promoter of the Yorkshire food and drink industry, said: “Whether you’re staying in one of Yorkshire’s fantastic Bed & Breakfasts or cooking in your own home there’s a fantastic selection of Yorkshire food and drink products to help make sure you get the right start to the day.
By bringing together Yorkshire businesses, consumers and chefs with the help of Brian Turner and our supporter Yorkshire Bank we want to highlight the benefits of having local produce on your menu or in your kitchen at home.”
As well as showcasing his culinary talents Brian Turner will speak about his journey and life as a celebrity chef and restaurateur, hoping to inspire the food business owners and home cooks in attendance. Attendees will then be able to discover and order some of the best local breakfast products at a mini ‘Meet the Producer’ event in the afternoon.
