Screen Yorkshire’s drama This is England has been nominated for multiple award nominations at this year’s TV Baftas. Its nominations are for Best Actor, Best Actress and Best Drama.

Set in the ’80s and providing an often grim but occasionally uplifting portrait of the rise of skinhead culture, This is England’s finely tuned character portrayals and wonderful scripts meant that it was one of the finest pieces of television in recent years and is rightly being recognised at the awards.

Last year’s Best Actress Vicky McClure has been nominated again for her portrayal of Lol. Facing opposition from Romola Garai for The Crimson Petal And The White, Nadine Marshall for Random and Emily Watson for Appropriate Adult.

Joseph Gilgun is up for Best Male for his role as Woody – but he faces some tough competition from Benedict Cumberbatch as Sherlock, Dominic West for his supberb portrayal of Fred West, and John Simm in Exile.

ITV1′s Appropriate Adult’s is also up for awards at the Arqiva British Academy Television Awards which take place on 27 May 2012.
