This morning saw businesses, campaigners and the press gather at York St John University for the anticipated event at which Julia Unwin  (Joseph Rowntree Foundation), Dr Hons Vince Cable (Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills), David Norgrove, Chairman of Low Pay Comission) and Professor David Fleming (Vice Chancellor of York St John University) discussed the current national minimum wage and debated the current and further implementation of the Living Wage.

The National Minimum Wage is the hourly rate that sets the wage floor for what businesses and employers must pay their staff. On the other hand, the Living Wage looks to providing a wage which can provide an adequate life. The Citizens UK website states that ”A living wage means every worker in the country will earn enough to provide their family with the essentials of life.” (2013).

During the discussion we took to twitter to give you a live feed of the topics covered. Here is what we said, and how you responded.

One way you can support the living wage, while having a great time yourself, is to go and have night in The Golden Ball! Everyone’s a winner!
