Reef have been announced as the opening day headliners for this year’s Galtres Festival. The Glastonbury-based rockers, who are celebrating their 20th anniversary as a band, will join Maximo Park, The Stranglers and the Undertones on the 23rd – 25th August at Duncombe Park, Helmsley.
The band rocketed to fame with their song ‘Place Your hands’ which peaked at number six in the UK singles chart. The vocals for the hit-song were also famously re-recorded for the intro music of the ‘Its Your Letters’ feature on Chris Evans’ popular Channel 4 TV show, TFI Friday – replacing the original lyrics of ‘place your hands’ with ‘its your letters’.
“This is a great addition to our line-up,” said festival director James Houston. “Everyone knows Reef’s party favourite Place Your Hands Up which wreaked havoc in the charts and tore pop music apart for a few weeks. But the sheer brilliance, thrill factor, smileability and scream-along choruses of Reef’s extensive repertoire make this rock. Not just rock though, the finest British rock and roll to emerge in an age. This is pure rock and roll for a modern age, and Reef are probably one of the more underrated bands of the Brit-pop era, if not the nineties.”
Other acts confirmed for the Friday include; Mostly Autumn and Blackbeard’s Tea Party – many more lineup announcements are expected soon. For more information about this years Galtres Festival, click here.
