Tomorrow families, friends and communities will be gathering together to share delicious treats and a morning latte in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support.
The 27 September marks the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning, Macmillan Cancer Support’s largest fundraising event of the year. The fundraiser, which began back in 1990, takes the simple concept of bringing people together for a tasty and social occasion, whilst raising substantial funds for the charity.
In 2012 115,00 people signed up to hold their own coffee morning raising a record-breaking £15 million. From the simple to the elaborate, coffee mornings range from a morning brew at a friends house, to community halls, schools and town-centre cafes with an open invite. M&S Cafe, headline sponsor for the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning hold the event each year, invited thousands of town-shoppers from across the UK to take a break and a slice of cake from their end of week errands.
Tomorrow Coffee Mornings can be found across York, including at Travelodge, Kenzi on Goodramgate, Barclays Bank on Coney Street and Browns on Davygate. For those wanting to sample the delights of independents, Ate O’Clock and Vanilla Cafe are just two of York’s local gems that will be raising money on the day.
The total raised tomorrow will help to continue and improve the work of Macmillan Cancer Support who provide medical, practical, financial and emotional help for those with cancer and their families. The charity states that 2 million people in the UK are currently living with cancer, and by 2030 the number is expected to double.
