From Friday 23rd to Sunday 25th of August, Galtres Parklands Festival will be returning, now in its ninth year, its at its new location Duncombe Park in Helmsley. Headliners include punk legends The Stranglers, indie rockers Maxïmo Park (who will be joined onstage by Razorlight frontman Johnny Borell) and brit pop masterminds Reef with support from the likes of The Undertones, Lloyd Cole and Littlemores, with over 100 acts playing over seven stages throughout the weekend. Its not all about big names, however, since the festival includes an excellent showcase of local and regional talent as well.
Foodies beware as a veritable feast of locally sourced, fair trade and organic food from across the region will be present, enough to make even the most fickle salivate ferociously. Booze hounds will also have no reason to howl with a mighty variety of beverages on offer being served from bars catering for all tastes, be they ale, cider, lager or wine based, each costing a mere £3.50 a pint!
If somehow one becomes bored of the food, drink and music, there’s always more to do with attractions such as Orbing, a silent disco, fairground rides and an assortment of eagles, owls, hawks and falcons at the Duncombe Park Bird of Prey centre just a couple of minutes walk away.
Its also a weekend of firsts as the festival becomes the first in the UK to adopt a fully electronic payment system, focused around the G-card system. All purchases will be made through the system, which hopes to eliminate the ever present festival fear of lost and stolen money. G-cards will still be able to be topped up with cash as well as through debit or credit cards.
Tickets are still available from £40 a day for an adult or £95 for the weekend, with camping permits costing from £10 a pitch.
